HOUSE music producer DJ Cleo is languishing in Wilgeheuwel hospital, west of Joburg, after undergoing a two-hour appendectomy.
When the mother of my kids rushed me here I never thought it was my appendix because I’ve always been careful with my diet
Cleo collapsed at his Honeydew home on Monday after complaining of lower abdominal pain after being unable to relieve himself for two days.
Cleo was then wheel-chaired to the hospital and diagnosed with an infected appendix after undergoing a battery of tests.
His appendix was removed on Tuesday night.
Sunday World visited Cleo at the hospital on Thursday and his tummy was a tapestry of scars and bandages.
Still visibly in pain, Cleo said he was happy to be alive because the pain was so unbearable he thought he’d had it.
“I thought I was going to die. But I’m in good hands here and I’m feeling better than yesterday,” he murmured.
Cleo said it started on December 31, when he felt some abdominal pain.
“But it disappeared and I thought it had gone for good. But on Monday it came back.
“When the mother of my kids rushed me here I never thought it was my appendix because I’ve always been careful with my diet,” he said.
The lanky muso said the disease hadn’t only isolated him from his family but had also hit him in the pocket because he had to cancel all his gigs this weekend.
“What bothers me, more importantly, is that this has halted my work.”
